Cookie Base Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, softened Can substitute with margarine or dairy-free alternative.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed Can substitute with coconut sugar.
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Can substitute with gluten-free flour blend.
  • 1 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups chocolate chips Can use white chocolate or peanut butter chips.
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (optional) Can omit or use walnuts, pecans, or candy pieces.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
  • Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by stirring in the vanilla extract until well combined.
  • In a separate bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet mixture, stirring until fully incorporated.
  • Gently fold in the chocolate chips and any chopped nuts you choose to use.
  • Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto ungreased baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart to allow for spreading.

Baking

  • Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are set but the centers are still soft.
  • Remove the cookies from the oven and allow to cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

For best results, keep an eye on your oven’s temperature to ensure the cookies don't become overly crispy. The cookies will have a soft center when pulled from the oven, which is crucial for a chewy texture.
