Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 35 pieces salted saltine crackers about 1 sleeve
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar packed
  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips

Decorations

  • Christmas-themed sprinkles optional
  • Red & green mini M&Ms or regular size M&Ms

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F and line a 15"x10" cookie sheet with rims with parchment paper.
  • Lay a single layer of saltine crackers in the pan.
  • In a small saucepan over medium-low heat, combine butter and brown sugar. Bring to a boil, stirring frequently. Once it reaches a full boil, reduce heat to low and cook for 3 minutes, stirring constantly.
  • Pour the brown sugar butter mixture evenly over the saltine crackers.
  • Bake in the oven for 5 minutes until bubbly.
  • Remove from the oven and place on a cooling rack. Immediately sprinkle with chocolate chips.
  • Wait a couple of minutes for the chocolate chips to melt, then spread the melted chocolate evenly over the saltines and caramel using an offset spatula or butter knife.
  • Add Christmas-themed sprinkles and/or mini M&Ms if desired.
  • Let cool until hard, about an hour. For faster cooling, refrigerate.
  • Once hardened, cut into squares to serve.

Notes

Best served in small squares. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for about a week, or refrigerate for longer storage. Watch the butter and sugar mixture carefully as it can burn after boiling.
